Where is the intake air temperature sensor located on the Volkswagen Touran?

Intake air temperature sensor is located on the intake hose after the air filter or on the mass air flow sensor. Working principle of intake air temperature sensor: The intake air temperature sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor. When the temperature rises, the resistance decreases, and when the temperature drops, the resistance increases. As the resistance in the circuit changes, it causes voltage variations, thereby generating different voltage signals to complete the automatic operation of the control system. When the engine is cold, the signal from the intake air temperature sensor is basically the same as that from the engine coolant temperature sensor. When the engine is warm, its signal voltage is approximately 2 to 3 times that of the coolant temperature sensor. Function of intake air temperature sensor: To detect the intake air temperature of the engine and convert it into a voltage signal input to the ECU as a signal for fuel injection correction.
I remember when I drove the Volkswagen Touran, the intake air temperature sensor was located on the side of the intake manifold, near the pipe behind the air filter. It measures the air temperature to assist the engine in controlling the combustion process, ensuring smooth starts and fuel efficiency. If the sensor malfunctions—such as becoming too dirty or aging and disconnecting—it may cause symptoms like rough idling, difficulty starting, or a sudden increase in fuel consumption. When checking it yourself, first open the engine compartment to see if the connector is loose or has dust buildup. You can gently wipe it with a soft cloth, but avoid pulling it forcefully to prevent damage. Regular maintenance should include attention to this component, especially for older Touran models, as they are prone to this issue. Periodic checks can save a lot of hassle.
