The fuel tank switch of the Jaguar XEL is located at the lower left side of the driver's compartment. To open it, simply press the switch key, and the fuel tank cover will open automatically. Taking the 2020 Jaguar XEL as an example, its body dimensions are: length 4778mm, width 1850mm, height 1429mm, with a wheelbase of 2935mm, a fuel tank capacity of 62 liters, and a trunk capacity of 455 liters. The 2020 Jaguar XEL is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 147kW and a maximum torque of 320Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It features a front suspension type of double-wishbone independent suspension and a rear suspension type of multi-link independent suspension.

The Jaguar XEL doesn't actually have a separate fuel filler flap button, which is quite a convenient design. When I first got the car, I spent ages looking for it before realizing that you just need to press the right side of the fuel filler flap when the car is unlocked, and it pops open automatically. Remember to turn off the engine when refueling, and after filling up, simply push it back gently until it clicks into place. If you try to press it when the car is locked, it won't open, which is a good safety feature to prevent accidental opening. My old Ford Focus required reaching for a switch under the driver's seat, but this new design is much simpler and leaves the trunk space more organized. However, in case of an electric mechanism failure, there's an emergency mechanical pull cord behind the left trim panel in the trunk.

Last time I drove my friend's Jaguar XEL to refuel, it took me five minutes to figure out how to open the fuel tank. This car is different from most German cars—there's no fuel tank button on the driver's side or any indicator on the center console. Later, he laughed and told me it's a manual operation: just press firmly on the fuel tank cap at the rear, provided the key is on you and the car is unlocked. This keyless design is quite clever—it reduces the number of buttons inside and speeds up the refueling process, much more convenient than those levers under the footwell in Japanese cars. It might take some getting used to for those switching cars, but once familiar, it feels very efficient.

Opening the fuel tank on the Jaguar XEL is exceptionally simple, with no need to locate any switch. When the car is unlocked, just press the fuel filler cap on the right side of the body with your hand, and it will pop open. Even with gloves on during winter, it operates effortlessly. The metal flap has a spring mechanism inside, and the pressing point is roughly in the middle-right area of the cap. Note two things: the vehicle must be unlocked, otherwise it won't budge; and after refueling, ensure you hear a click when closing the cap to confirm it's securely locked. This design perfectly combines mechanical structure with electronic locking, far more reliable than old-fashioned cable switches—no issues in three years of use.

When I drove the XEL to the gas station, I noticed the clever design of its fuel filler cap switch. There's no need to bend down to look for a lever under the driver's seat or scroll through menus on the central screen. It integrates a physical switch directly into the fuel filler cap: when the vehicle is unlocked, pressing the edge of the cap with your thumb releases the internal electromagnetic lock. The fuel filler is located on the right side of the car, with a round cap about 12 cm in diameter, requiring some force to press. Once when my car key battery died, I could still open the fuel cap this way after unlocking the car with the mechanical key. However, be careful not to direct high-pressure water jets at the cap seam during car washes, as it might affect the seal.
