Where is the fuel tank cap switch on the Tiguan L?

The Tiguan L does not have a separate fuel tank cap switch. Simply press the fuel tank cap when the vehicle is unlocked, and the cap will automatically pop open. When the vehicle is locked, the fuel tank cap will also lock automatically. Depending on the model, the fuel tank cap is generally located on the rear quarter panel on either the left or right side of the vehicle. For the Tiguan L, the fuel tank cap is positioned on the right rear quarter panel. Some sports cars may place the fuel tank cap on the front quarter panel. Additional Information: 1. The fuel tank cap usually has a label indicating the type and grade of fuel required for the vehicle. Generally, higher-grade fuel benefits the engine more, improving its performance and extending its lifespan. Additionally, higher-grade fuel can also help reduce fuel consumption to some extent. 2. During daily use, you might encounter situations where the fuel tank cap cannot be opened. This is often due to blockages by foreign objects or lack of lubrication. Simply cleaning or lubricating the cap can resolve the issue. 3. If the fuel tank cap cannot be opened from the outside, it can also be opened from inside the trunk. Typically, near the inner lining of the trunk close to the fuel tank cap, there is a locking mechanism for the fuel tank cap. Pulling the attached cable will release the cap.
I remember when I first drove the Tiguan L, I spent a whole day looking for the fuel tank cap switch. Eventually, I found it near the footrest area by the driver's left foot, right next to the seat side. There's a small lever beside the floor mat—just give it a gentle pull, and the cap pops open. Volkswagen designed it this way to keep the switch hidden and secure, preventing accidental activation. During my first drive, I initially thought the button was under the steering wheel, but after bending down, I spotted it. If you're a new driver, don't worry—try checking the corners under the seat; it's usually tucked away but super easy to operate. Just be mindful not to let debris block the lever, and always remember to turn off the engine when refueling for safety.
