The Tiguan does not have a separate switch for the fuel tank cap. Simply press the fuel tank cap when the vehicle is unlocked, and it will automatically pop open. When the vehicle is locked, the fuel tank cap will also automatically lock. Depending on the model, the fuel tank cap is generally located on the rear quarter panels on either side of the vehicle. Taking the 2017 Tiguan as an example: it is positioned as a compact SUV, with body dimensions of 4506mm in length, 1809mm in width, and 1685mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2684mm. In terms of suspension, the 2017 Tiguan features a front McPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension.

As a frequent driver of the Tiguan, I find the fuel tank cap switch quite user-friendly. It's located on the lower sidewall to the left of the driver's seat, where there's a small pull tab lever that's easily reachable. The first time I drove a Tiguan, I searched for it for a while before realizing it was near the door handle on the floor edge—just pull it to open the fuel tank cap. The position might vary slightly in different model years; for example, the new Tiguan L integrates it into the unlock button on the center console, requiring just a light press. I recommend that beginners first park and turn off the engine before operating it to avoid accidentally triggering it while driving, which could pose a risk. Once familiar, this feature is very convenient, saving time and hassle during refueling, much better than those cumbersome designs.

Do You Need to Start the Engine to Turn on the Air Conditioning?

You cannot turn on the air conditioning without starting the engine, whether it's for hot or cold air. Below is relevant information about car air conditioning: 1. Introduction to Car Air Conditioning: Car air conditioning consists of a compressor, condenser, throttle element, evaporator, fan, and necessary control components. It is an air conditioning system designed to regulate the temperature and humidity inside the vehicle, providing a comfortable environment for the driver. 2. Working Principle: When the compressor operates, it sucks in low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant from the evaporator. After compression, the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant increase, and it is sent to the condenser. Inside the condenser, the high-temperature, high-pressure gaseous refrigerant transfers heat to the outside air passing through the condenser, causing it to liquefy into a liquid. When the liquid refrigerant flows through the throttle device, its temperature and pressure decrease, and it enters the evaporator. Inside the evaporator, the low-temperature, low-pressure liquid refrigerant absorbs heat from the cabin air passing through the evaporator, causing it to evaporate into a gas. The gas is then sucked back into the compressor to begin the next cycle.

How to Choose the Right Engine Oil for Your Car

Engine oil is a crucial lubricant that protects your vehicle's engine. Choosing the right oil ensures optimal engine protection. How to correctly select car engine oil: 1. Choose the appropriate oil grade. Generally, gasoline engine oils have quality grades, typically starting from SG level, with SJ, SL, SM, SN indicating progressively better quality. Make sure to select the right one. 2. When purchasing oil, opt for reputable brands. Quality often matters more than brand size – well-reviewed and reliable oils are good choices. 3. Consider your vehicle's usage when selecting between mineral oil and synthetic oil. Typically, mineral oil requires more frequent changes (every 5,000-6,000 km), while synthetic oil lasts longer (around 8,000-10,000 km). 4. When adding oil, pay attention to the dipstick markings. The ideal level is between the maximum and minimum marks. Overfilling can lead to oil burning. 5. During regular use, check the oil level every 1,000 km to monitor consumption and top up if necessary.

How to Remove Dried Touch-Up Paint

Here are the steps to remove dried touch-up paint: 1. Use gauze dipped in water to gently wipe away rust, thoroughly clean and repair the paint. 2. Shake the brush more than 30 times to ensure even application. Take out the brush and apply it evenly on the scratches. 3. Apply first, let it dry for 5 minutes, then repeat several times. 4. After 3 days, soak waterproof sandpaper in soapy water for 20-30 minutes, then gently sand the scratched surface. Here are precautions for using a touch-up pen: 1. Do not unscrew the cap when the pen is placed horizontally or upside down to avoid paint leakage. 2. Since touch-up paint is applied by brushing and differs greatly from professional spray painting, there may be slight color differences compared to the original paint. Wait 2 to 3 days for the paint film to fully dry, then use water sandpaper or polish for better results.

Is There a Relationship Between Spark Plugs and Engine Power?

Spark plugs are related to engine power. If a spark plug is damaged, it can directly cause insufficient engine power. Methods to determine if a spark plug is damaged: Remove the spark plug and observe its appearance. The condition of the spark plug can be judged based on the following color observations. A normal spark plug's insulator skirt and electrodes appear gray-white, gray-yellow, or light brown. A properly functioning spark plug has a reddish-brown insulator skirt, with an electrode gap between 0.8-0.9mm and no signs of electrode burning. If the spark plug has oil stains or deposits but is not damaged, it can continue to be used after cleaning off the oil and deposits. If the spark plug is severely damaged, with signs such as blistering at the top, black streaks, cracks, or melted electrodes, the cause of the damage should be identified. After troubleshooting, replace the spark plug with a new one. Additionally, if the spark plug appears black as if smoked, it indicates that the wrong heat range was selected or that the air-fuel mixture is too rich, with oil creeping up. Steps to replace a spark plug: Open the engine hood, lift the plastic cover of the engine, and remove the high-voltage wires. Mark each cylinder's position to avoid confusion. Use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plugs one by one. While removing them, check for any external debris like leaves or dust and ensure everything is cleaned thoroughly. Place the new spark plug into the spark plug hole, hand-tighten it a few turns, and then use the socket to tighten it further. Reinstall the high-voltage wires according to the firing order, and then secure the cover plate.

What is the Function of Rearview Mirror Heating?

Car rearview mirror heating is particularly useful during rainy or snowy weather. When the rearview mirror is heated, the heater behind the mirror quickly warms the mirror surface, gradually removing rainwater or fog from it. This eliminates the need for the driver to frequently wipe the mirror manually, thereby reducing driving hazards. Below are some additional details: 1. Things to note when modifying by the owner: Modifications usually require altering some of the original wiring inside the car and involve drilling holes and threading wires, which is quite complex. It is recommended to have it installed at a professional auto parts store. Additionally, some low-displacement vehicles may not be suitable for installing rearview mirror heating. Generally, the combined power of the heating elements in both rearview mirrors is equivalent to that of a rear window defroster. Installing them in low-displacement vehicles may lead to insufficient power output. 2. Electrically heated rearview mirrors are very effective against fog and condensation but not as effective against rain. In light rain, the water droplets on the rearview mirror can be somewhat dried out; however, during heavy rain, the effectiveness is limited, though it does prevent excessive water accumulation on the rearview mirror.

What to Do When a Triangle with an Exclamation Mark Appears in the Car?

A triangle with an exclamation mark indicates a malfunction in the car's general performance, components, or functions. Common issues include parking sensor failure, fuel cut-off system intervention or malfunction, external light failure, or engine oil pressure sensor failure. Solution: Visit a 4S shop for inspection to identify the source of the fault. The exclamation mark is a common fault indicator in cars. Besides the triangle with an exclamation mark, there are four other forms of exclamation mark warnings: a yellow gear with an exclamation mark, a red circle with parentheses and an exclamation mark in the middle, a yellow bracket with a horizontal line and an exclamation mark in the middle, and a yellow bulb with an exclamation mark. Below is a detailed analysis of these four scenarios: Automatic Transmission Fault: A yellow gear with an exclamation mark is the automatic transmission fault warning light, indicating a transmission issue or low transmission fluid. The transmission fluid should be replaced promptly. Brake System Fault: A circle with parentheses and an exclamation mark in the middle represents a brake system warning, typically indicating brake system failure or low brake fluid. Immediate inspection of the brake system is required to avoid accidents. Tire Pressure Anomaly: A bracket with a horizontal line and an exclamation mark in the middle is the tire pressure monitoring warning light, which illuminates when the tire pressure is too low. Check the tire pressure and restore it to the normal range. Lighting Fault: A yellow bulb with an exclamation mark is the lighting fault indicator, signaling a malfunction in the car's lights. Solution: Visit a 4S shop for inspection as soon as possible, or perform a self-check focusing on commonly used bulbs such as turn signals, fog lights, and interior lights to identify the issue.
