Where is the fuel tank cap button on the Envision?

The Envision does not have a fuel tank cap button. You can open it by shifting to P gear and pressing the outer part of the fuel tank. Fuel tanks can be divided into two types: open tanks and closed tanks. Open tanks have a liquid surface that communicates with the atmosphere, and an air filter is installed on the fuel tank cap. Open tanks have a simple structure and are easy to install and maintain, making them commonly used in hydraulic systems. Closed tanks are mostly used for pressurized fuel tanks, filled with a certain pressure of inert gas, with a charging pressure of up to 0.05MPa. The Envision is a mid-size SUV produced by SAIC-GM Buick, available with either a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The 1.5-liter version of the Envision is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission across all models, while the 2.0-liter version comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission across all models.
As a veteran owner who has driven two generations of the Envision, I'm quite familiar with this issue. Both the old and new models have the fuel door button located near the driver's left leg area, on the side of the dashboard where there's a curved plastic cover. Run your fingers along the gap beneath the dashboard to find a physical button with a fuel pump symbol - pressing it produces a click sound. The older model required unlocking the entire vehicle first, while the newer version allows direct pressing. Just last week, I had to teach my cousin how to locate this button when driving my 2020 Envision - it took him quite a while to find it. This area below the left side of the steering wheel is easily overlooked, especially in low-light nighttime conditions. I recommend applying a reflective sticker here for easier location.
As a Buick specialist technician, let me clarify the fuel filler door opening methods for the Envision series. For pre-2018 models, there's a dedicated button near the driver's left knee. Post-2019 models adopted central locking integration - the fuel door pops open automatically when the vehicle is unlocked. Owners who can't locate the button should first verify the key is in Park position and doors are unlocked. Some variants require engine shutdown for operation. In emergencies, use the key to access the backup port: remove the right tailgate trim panel to find a red pull-ring for manual release. Avoid prying the cover forcefully as plastic clips may break, costing 400-500 RMB in repairs.
