The fuel pump module of the Mercedes ML350 is located in the SAM computer in the trunk. Location of the fuel pump: The fuel pump is a professional term in the automotive parts industry. It is one of the basic components of the fuel injection system in electronically fuel-injected vehicles, situated inside the fuel tank. The fuel pump operates during startup and while the engine is running. If the engine stops but the ignition switch remains in the ON position, the HFM-SFI control module cuts off the power supply to the fuel pump to prevent accidental ignition. Function of the fuel pump: The fuel pump's role is to draw fuel from the fuel tank, pressurize it, and then deliver it to the fuel supply line, working in conjunction with the fuel pressure regulator to establish a certain level of fuel pressure.
Hey, I've worked on quite a few Mercedes ML350s in the shop, and their fuel pump module is pretty well hidden. It's located directly beneath the rear seats, and you'll need to disassemble some parts to access it. First, pull up hard on the rear seat cushion to release the clips underneath, then peel back the carpet to reveal a black inspection cover. Remove the screws holding it in place, lift the cover, and you'll see the fuel pump module attached to the top of the fuel tank. This design is mainly for easier maintenance—saves you from dropping the fuel tank and also protects against road impacts. But before you start, make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal; sparks near the fuel line connections could be dangerous. When reassembling, ensure the clips are properly aligned, or the seat might squeak.
