The Lavida does not have a fuel filler switch. To refuel, simply press the left side of the fuel filler cap, and it will automatically pop open. After refueling, press it back into place. When refueling, ensure the fuel is directed into the filler neck to prevent spillage or splashing, which could lead to fire hazards or personal injury. The Lavida measures 4605mm in length, 1765mm in width, and 1460mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2610mm. It features front-wheel drive, a MacPherson strut front suspension, and a torsion beam rear suspension. The in-car navigation system combines touch screen and rotary knob controls, includes MP3 playback, and supports USB, AUX, and SD card slots for easy and powerful functionality. The LCD screen features a foldable design.

Last time I helped a friend find the fuel filler switch on the Lavida, I noticed the design varies by model year. In older Lavida models, the fuel tank switch is located near the driver's left foot, above the floor mat – there's a plastic lever with a fuel tank symbol that you pull to open. For post-2018 new Lavida models, the switch is integrated into the central locking system: simply unlock the car, walk to the rear, and press the right side of the fuel filler flap to pop it open. A handy tip: if you can't find it temporarily, press the unlock button on the remote key, and the fuel filler flap will unlock simultaneously with the doors. I tried this with my brother's 2020 Lavida recently – it's more convenient than the old version. Now only the trunk release remains on the door panel, while the dedicated fuel filler switch has been eliminated.

A veteran who has driven three Lavidas shares tips: The small pull cord under the driver's seat is most noticeable in older Lavidas, while the newer models require pressing the key unlock button first. Last week at the gas station, I saw a girl struggling to pry open the fuel tank cover—she didn't know VW now uses electronic controls. Key points to remember: The fuel tank cover lock is linked to the door locks; press the remote unlock button after turning off the engine to release it; if it still won't open, get back in the car, lock and unlock again. The spring on the new fuel tank cover is very tight, so remember to apply some force when pressing.

With 13 years of car repair experience and having disassembled hundreds of Lavidas, the fuel filler switch comes in three scenarios. For the older PQ34 platform models (pre-2017), it's located on the floor to the lower left of the steering wheel—a black plastic handle with grooves. The newer MQB platform integrates it into the central locking module; pressing the right side of the fuel filler flap triggers the mechanical switch when the car is unlocked. Some 2013-2017 models also have an emergency cable behind the right trunk trim panel. A little-known fact: Within 10 seconds after turning off the engine and removing the key, pressing the unlock button still allows the fuel filler flap to open.
