Where is the fuel filler switch in Volkswagen cars?

Volkswagen cars do not have a separate fuel filler switch. When refueling, press the left side of the fuel filler cap, and it will automatically pop open. Please note that the fuel filler cap can only be opened when the vehicle is unlocked. More detailed information is as follows: 1. It is important to note that you should never rely solely on the fuel gauge on the car's dashboard to determine the actual remaining fuel in the tank. Most car fuel gauges operate via an electronic sensor that moves up and down inside the fuel tank. When the sensor sends an electronic signal to the fuel gauge pointer, the reading on the gauge may not be accurate. Exceeding the standard fuel level can create unnecessary safety hazards for the vehicle. 2. If the fuel filler cap cannot be opened, you can start by checking the trunk. First, remove the trunk liner covering the fuel tank, which is usually secured by plastic clips and can be easily pried open with a screwdriver. After removing the liner, you will see the locking mechanism of the fuel filler cap and the remote-operated cable for the fuel filler cap. Simply pull the cable to open the fuel filler cap. If this doesn’t work, press the movable part of the locking mechanism while continuously pulling the cable, and the fuel filler cap will open easily. Some models have a dedicated switch on the locking mechanism; pressing this switch will open the fuel filler cap.
I've been driving a Volkswagen for several years, and the fuel filler release is usually located on the left side of the driver's seat near the door trim. It's just a small lever or button – you pull or press it, and the fuel tank cap pops open automatically. The placement is very ergonomic; you can easily reach it without leaving the car after parking. Volkswagen designed it this way mainly to prevent accidental openings, such as someone tampering with it while driving or mischievous children playing with it, enhancing safety. I remember when I first started driving, I couldn't find it and was frantic until I checked the manual. Now that I'm used to it, I find it quite convenient. If you have a newer Golf or Passat, you might even unlock it remotely with the key, depending on the model year and configuration. During regular maintenance, it's advisable to check that lever to prevent rust or jamming.
