Where is the ETC device installed?

The ETC is generally installed in the upper middle part of the front windshield for most vehicles, while for large vehicles like trucks and buses, it is installed in the lower middle part. The appropriate installation position should be no lower than 1.2 meters and no higher than 2.5 meters, with an installation angle between 30 to 90 degrees. For vehicles with pre-installed or aftermarket explosion-proof film, which may affect the signal transmission of the microwave communication link, the ETC should be installed in the microwave sunroof strip. ETC stands for Electronic-Toll-Collection, meaning electronic toll collection system. To apply for ETC, the vehicle owner needs to provide their valid ID card and the original and photocopy of the vehicle registration certificate. If the application is made by a non-owner, the agent's valid ID card is also required. The photocopy of the vehicle registration certificate should include the page with the most recent annual inspection stamp. A bank card for deducting highway tolls is also needed, and the vehicle must be registered under the name of an individual aged between 18 and 60. For company vehicles, the required documents are: An introduction letter from the vehicle owner (with official seal); Copy of the organization code certificate or business license (with official seal); Original ID card of the agent; Original vehicle registration certificate; The vehicle that needs to have ETC installed. Here are some precautions for installing ETC: Do not obstruct the view, it's best to install it behind the rearview mirror: Many car models have a large inclination angle of the windshield, which can reduce the driver's field of vision. If this is not considered during ETC installation, it can increase the driver's blind spot. Installing it on the right side behind the rearview mirror can avoid obstructing the view. Do not affect charging: The ETC electronic tag consumes power, but generally does not require charging or battery replacement because it has a solar panel on the back that can charge itself. Therefore, during installation, avoid the blackened areas on the windshield and do not install it where the solar panel can be easily blocked. Do not remove it casually once installed: The button in the middle of the adhesive is an anti-removal lever, connected to a switch underneath. After the electronic tag is installed, the windshield will press the anti-removal lever in. If it is removed casually, the lever will pop out and trigger the switch, locking the electronic tag and making it unusable. You will then need to go to an ETC service point to unlock it. This is designed to prevent multiple vehicles from sharing one device.
I've seen many friends install ETC devices, mostly on the inside of the front windshield near the rearview mirror, either on the driver's side or the passenger side above. Why choose that spot? Because it provides the best signal reception, allowing the toll station's antenna to directly scan it, ensuring quick passage. When installing, don't just stick it in a corner or low position. I once placed mine below the window, and it kept failing at highway tolls, forcing me to reinstall it. Remember to clean the glass surface with alcohol before sticking it, press firmly, and wait for the adhesive to dry—about one to two hours is best before driving. The position also affects safety; don't block your view, especially at night, and ensure the device's light isn't too bright to interfere with driving. If your car has special window film, test the signal penetration first to avoid issues. I suggest testing it at a small toll station after initial installation to ensure it works properly—around 180 words.
