My Great Wall C50 has been running for 6 years now, and you can see the engine number when you open the hood. It's located on the left side of the engine block, near the brake fluid reservoir and firewall, where there's a flat area engraved with the number. I even made a rubbing of it during my last annual inspection—you need to apply dark ink paste and then use transparent tape to lift it off. A little tip: before making the rubbing, it's best to clean the area with carburetor cleaner. Oil leaks can easily obscure the number; last time, I had to scrub for a while to make it legible. If you can't find it, squat down and face the air filter box direction, and you'll see the engraved area.

The engine number of the Great Wall C50 really requires careful searching. I've checked it several times myself. Specifically, it's located on the cylinder block plane near the passenger side, above the connection between the engine and transmission. When you look in from the front of the car, you'll need to move aside some wiring harnesses to clearly see the stamped number. I recommend doing this in the morning when the engine is cold, otherwise the exhaust manifold gets extremely hot. Last time during my vehicle inspection, the number was covered with oil sludge - I had to scrub for ten minutes with a toothbrush dipped in diesel before it became visible. By the way, the seventh character of the engine number indicates the year - on my car it's L representing 2012, which needs verification during inspection.

Just finished inspecting my brother's Great Wall C50. The engine number is located on the inclined surface on the left side of the cylinder block, which is slightly harder to find compared to sedans. You need to properly secure the hood support rod and position your head near the shock absorber tower to look downward. The embossed characters are about 0.5mm deep - when making a rubbing, wide adhesive tape works better than carbon paper. Here's an extra tip: This engine model is GW4G15T, the turbocharged version of the 15 series. If you've installed an aftermarket air intake cone filter, you might need to remove its mounting bracket to get enough working space.
