Where is the engine number for all BMW models?

For all BMW models, the engine number is located at the front end of the engine cylinder head where it connects to the engine block. The function of the engine is to convert the thermal energy of gasoline into mechanical energy by burning the gasoline in a sealed cylinder, causing the gas to expand and push the piston to perform work. BMW's models include the BMW X3, BMW 5 Series, BMW X5, BMW M2, BMW M8, etc. Taking the 2020 BMW M8 as an example, it is a large car with the following dimensions: length 5104mm, width 1943mm, height 1420mm, wheelbase 3027mm, fuel tank capacity 68l, and trunk capacity 440l.
Last time I helped a friend with the transfer process, I looked for this. BMW engine numbers are mostly hidden in the engine compartment, and the location varies quite a bit depending on the model. For example, with rear-wheel-drive cars like the 3 Series or 5 Series, you have to crouch down and look near the connection between the transmission and the engine, close to the firewall. You'll need a flashlight to see the stamped number on the engine block. For SUVs like the X3 or X5, it's easier to find—usually on the upper right side of the engine near the firewall. But remember to bring a cloth because that area tends to accumulate dust over time, and you'll need to wipe it clean to see the number clearly. Most importantly, never attempt this when the engine is hot—the exhaust pipe can burn your skin! If you can't find it, here's a trick: squat near the right front wheel and look toward the back of the engine—chances are, you'll spot it.
