Where is the coolant temperature sensor located on the BMW N13 engine?

The coolant temperature sensor 2 of the BMW N13 engine is located under the hood. Inside the engine compartment, it is positioned between the small coolant expansion tank on the left side of the engine and the transmission. Composition of the coolant temperature sensor: The coolant level and temperature sensor consists of a thermostat section and a water level control section. It is accompanied by a pressure reduction device before the electric valve and a rotary muffler heater for heating. Function of the coolant temperature sensor: The coolant temperature sensor converts the coolant temperature into an electrical signal, which is input to the ECU to: adjust fuel injection quantity (increased during cold conditions); modify ignition timing (advanced during cold starts and retarded during high temperatures to prevent knocking); influence idle control valve operation (ECU controls idle speed based on coolant temperature signals during cold starts); and affect EGR valve operation.
