Where is the Child Safety Lock on the Car Door?

There are two types of child safety locks on car doors: 1. Electronic locks are usually located in the window button area on the driver's side door; 2. Mechanical switches can typically be found on the inner edge of the rear doors. If you need to open the door after using the mechanical switch to lock it, you must first press the door button to unlock it, then pull the rear door handle to open the door. Electronic switches are more convenient—simply toggle the switch to activate or deactivate it. While the car is in motion, children seated in the rear may accidentally open the door, posing a potential hazard. The child safety lock effectively prevents this danger. Once the child safety lock is engaged, the door can only be opened from the outside. If the rear door cannot be opened from the inside, it may be because a rear passenger accidentally activated the child safety lock mechanism while entering or exiting the vehicle. In such cases, simply reset the child safety lock to resolve the issue.
A few days ago I just helped a friend deal with the child lock issue. Open the rear door, and you'll see a small toggle or rotary switch near the door edge by the latch. On my Volkswagen, it's right by the door seam with a child lock symbol - just flick it gently to engage. Once activated, the door can't be opened from inside, only from outside. Remember to set it separately for both left and right doors, and you'll see the latch mechanism working each time you open/close the door. Set it before traveling with kids, so you won't worry about curious little hands playing with door handles while driving. Some American cars hide the rotary switch under rubber padding that needs lifting to access.
