The central locking controller of the Passat Lingyu is located under the driver's foot, inside the box beneath the floor mat. Below is an introduction to the Passat: 1. Exterior: The Passat features slender wheel spokes on the side, with overall dimensions of 493318361469mm (lengthwidthheight) and a wheelbase of 2871mm, offering rear headroom and legroom that far exceed those of its peers. 2. Powertrain: The Passat is equipped with three different engines: 1.4T, 1.8T, and 2.0T. The 1.4T engine delivers a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds. The 1.8T engine produces a maximum horsepower of 179 and a maximum torque of 300 Nm, reaching 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The 2.0T engine offers a maximum horsepower of 220/186 and a maximum torque of 350/320 Nm, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 7.4/8.4 seconds.

As a former owner of an old Passat Lingyu for over a decade, I remember it clearly. The central control box is basically located behind the glove compartment on the passenger side. To find it, you'll need to remove the entire glove compartment first. Inside the glove compartment, there are damping rod clips on both sides—press both sides inward to release them, then lift it up to remove the compartment. Once removed, you'll see a black plastic cover inside, usually secured with a few Phillips screws or plastic clips. Unscrew the screws or carefully pry open the clips, and the black rectangular box with connectors, slightly larger than a cigarette pack, is what you're looking for. If you're doing it yourself, remember to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery first for safety.

The location of the central control box depends on the specific model year of the Passat. For the B5.5 version around 2005 to 2007, it is indeed hidden behind the glove compartment on the passenger side. You can find it by removing the glove box and then opening the inner cover panel. However, for the later models from 2008 and 2009, the position has been adjusted, and in some models, it has been moved under the driver's seat. Try bending down and reaching under the driver's seat, feeling along the edge of the carpet to see if there is a small control box fixed to the floor. Of course, the most reliable method is to go to a shop and use a diagnostic computer to read the location code or refer to the repair diagram for the corresponding year.

I've worked on the Passat Lingyu quite a few times during repairs. The central control unit is usually fixed in the front section of the cabin. In most cases, it's located behind the glove compartment on the passenger side. The general disassembly steps are: empty the glove box, locate the retaining rods on both sides of the compartment, squeeze the sides firmly to release them from the retaining mechanism, then remove the entire glove box. Behind it, there's usually a trim panel blocking access. Pry open the panel or remove a few screws, and you'll see that core control box, typically connected with several wiring harnesses. It manages functions like door locks and window regulators - when it malfunctions, it can affect multiple systems.

Does the sedan's capacity of 5 people include children?

The sedan's capacity of 5 people includes children. The vehicle's approved passenger capacity is calculated based on headcount, with no restrictions on passengers' age, height, or weight. Therefore, even an infant of a few months counts as one passenger. If a sedan carries five adults plus one infant, it constitutes overloading. The Road Traffic Safety Law clearly stipulates: Children under 12 years old cannot sit in the front passenger seat when riding in a car and must sit in the rear. Children under 4 years old must use a safety seat when traveling in a vehicle, while those under 7 years old can use a three-point seat belt in conjunction with a child seat.

What does vehicle suspension stiffness adjustment mean?

Vehicle suspension stiffness adjustment refers to regulating the comfort level of a vehicle's suspension, typically offering three modes: normal, sport, and comfort. By controlling the adjustment valve on the shock absorber through the control unit, it regulates the internal hydraulic circulation of the shock absorber to alter its damping coefficient. The primary purpose is to maintain a balance and switch between the vehicle's handling and comfort. When the vehicle is in sport mode, the driver can set the chassis suspension to be stiffer, enhancing the vehicle's handling and cornering support, thereby improving the driving experience with a stronger sense of control. Conversely, if a comfortable driving experience is desired, the chassis suspension can be adjusted to be softer via switch operation, allowing it to better absorb road impacts.

Can You Not Pull the Handbrake When in P Gear?

You can choose not to pull the handbrake when in P gear because the P gear is both a neutral gear and has a braking mechanism. Therefore, the direct function of engaging P gear is for parking. When stopping on a level road, engaging P gear puts the car's transmission in a neutral operating state, completely interrupting the power transmission between the engine and the output shaft. When driving an automatic transmission car, you can shift to N gear when waiting at a red light, instead of staying in D gear and pressing the brake. In the event of a rear-end collision, if the car is impacted and forced forward while in D gear, it can easily damage the transmission. Therefore, if the wait at a red light is prolonged, it is advisable to shift to N gear and engage the handbrake.

Can the engine be started without shifting to P gear?

No, the engine cannot be started without shifting to P gear. If not in P gear, the car may move forward or backward immediately after starting the engine, which could compromise safety. Therefore, the car must be in P gear to start the engine. Automatic transmission vehicles are equipped with a P gear, which is the parking gear and a common position in automatic transmission models. It is usually located at the front of the gear shift console, ahead of the R gear. The P gear is a special neutral position that mechanically locks the transmission output shaft to secure the vehicle. It functions by locking the drive axle to keep the vehicle stationary or prevent minor movements, serving as a parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving after parking.
