BMW fuel pump relay is located inside the engine cover, near the battery or in the black box above the front shock absorbers on either side. Function of the relay: The main function of automotive relays is to use small currents to control large currents. The vehicle control module cannot directly power the actuators as it may burn out the ECU. Therefore, the vehicle control module powers the relay coil to control the actuators. Function of the fuel pump: The fuel pump pressurizes oil from the oil pan and delivers it to the oil filter and various lubrication channels to lubricate the main moving components of the engine while filtering the oil. The fuel pump is a lightweight and compact pump, categorized into three main types: inline, distributor, and unit pumps. The fuel pump requires a power source to operate, with the lower camshaft driven by the engine crankshaft gear.
