Chery's headquarters and production base are located in Wuhu, Anhui. The following is an introduction to the Chery brand: 1. Chery brand interpretation: 'Qi' means 'especially' in Chinese, and 'Rui' means 'auspicious and lucky'. Combined, it means especially auspicious and lucky. CHERY is derived from the English word CHEERY (meaning 'cheerfully' or 'joyfully') by removing an 'e', expressing the company's philosophy of striving for excellence and never being satisfied with the status quo. 2. Characteristics of the Chery brand: It has five characteristics: first, leadership status, including leading performance, technology, top talent, and respect; second, diversified equity structure; third, brand sovereignty; fourth, open culture; fifth, extensive international cooperation across the entire value chain.

Speaking of Chery, I grew up watching this brand. I remember more than twenty years ago, when anyone in our neighborhood wanted to buy a car, their first choices were always Santana and Jetta. It wasn’t until a neighbor drove back a Chery Fengyun that the whole courtyard gathered around to see the novelty. That’s when I learned this Chinese brand was produced in Wuhu, Anhui. Later, when I went to Wuhu on a business trip, I saw Chery taxis all over the streets and those massive factories—it felt like a real car city. Now, Chery has several bases across the country, like Dalian and Ordos, where they also produce cars, but the Wuhu headquarters remains its root. The location benefits from the Yangtze River’s convenient water transport, allowing the cars made here to be shipped directly to ports for sale abroad.

I used to think Chery was a brand from Hefei, but during a road trip passing through Wuhu, I realized I was mistaken. This city has truly come alive thanks to Chery. You can see a massive automotive industrial park right by the highway exit. Locals speak of Chery with great pride, saying it started in the 1990s as a merger of several small factories and has now become a leader among domestic car brands. In recent years, they've expanded widely—I've seen new Chery factories in Zhengzhou, Henan, and Dalian, Liaoning, and heard they've even set up plants in South America. But when it comes to origins, all engineer training and core R&D are based at the Wuhu headquarters, where every new car launch is debuted.

Chery's production footprint is larger than many people think. After establishing their first factory in Wuhu, Anhui in 1997, they have now formed a nationwide production network radiating from their Wuhu headquarters. According to my research, their Dalian factory in Northeast China mainly produces new energy vehicles, the Zhengzhou base focuses on export models, and even Ordos in Inner Mongolia has a dedicated SUV production line. Last year, a friend who visited the Wuhu assembly plant reported that it features fully robotic welding lines capable of producing 52 vehicles per hour. Most impressive is their engine workshop - the independently developed 1.6T engine manufactured at the Wuhu base reportedly achieves a thermal efficiency of 37%.

As an Anhui native, I'm extremely familiar with Chery. The company headquarters is located in Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Zone, where you can spot their iconic blue-and-white factory buildings when driving across the Yangtze River Third Bridge. Their industrial complex is ridiculously huge, divided into several zones including the engine plant, transmission plant, and welding assembly plant. I remember once when going to Wuhu Fantawild amusement park, the taxi driver mentioned that while the left side of this road is Fantawild, the right side is Chery's factory. Nowadays, most new taxis on Wuhu streets are Chery Arrizo models, and restaurant owners say these vehicles generate billions in local tax revenue annually. I recently heard Chery has also established a branch factory in Brazil, but their R&D center always remains in Wuhu.
