The Hegang-Dalian Expressway runs from Hegang City in Heilongjiang Province to Dalian City in Liaoning Province, passing through cities such as Jiamusi, Qitaihe, Jixi, Mudanjiang, Yanbian, Dunhua, Baishan, Tonghua, Benxi, and Dandong. It is a 1,474-kilometer-long expressway with four lanes in both directions. The Hegang-Dalian Expressway traverses the eastern regions of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces, serving as a fast route for the eastern part of Northeast China to access the sea and connect with Northeast Asian regions such as North Korea, South Korea, and Japan for international trade. The Hegang-Dalian Expressway is the first of the nine north-south vertical lines in the National Expressway 7918 Network, and it is also part of the Ministry of Transport's planning outline and the Jilin Province Expressway Network Plan. It is one of the six key channels designated for construction in the Northeast China Revitalization Plan approved by the State Council.
The Hegang-Dalian Expressway starts in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, runs south through Jiamusi, Qitaihe, and Mudanjiang, then enters Jilin Province passing through Baishan and Tonghua, crosses the scenic border area of Dandong in Liaoning Province, and finally ends in Dalian, Liaoning. The entire route is approximately over 1,400 kilometers. Drivers should be cautious of icy roads when heading north in winter. The winding mountain roads near Changbai Mountain require full concentration when driving. It's a great idea to try Dandong strawberries when taking a break at service areas in summer!
This highway connects major cities in Northeast China: Hegang in Heilongjiang, a coal-mining city; the Changbai Mountain forest area in Baishan, Jilin; and the coastal city of Dalian in Liaoning. Last year, I drove the section from Dandong to Dalian—the coastal highway was exceptionally beautiful, with rainbow LED strips even installed in the tunnel clusters near Fengcheng. However, there are few service areas between Jiamusi and Qitaihe, so it's best to fill up the tank before setting off.
