The Malibu XL does not have fog lights because the brightness of its daytime running lights can replace the function of fog lights. Fog lights are designed to make the vehicle visible to others in conditions of reduced visibility, such as fog or heavy rain, requiring a light source with strong penetration. Taking the 2021 Malibu XL as an example, its body dimensions are 4933mm in length, 1854mm in width, and 1472mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2829mm and a fuel tank capacity of 55 liters. This model is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 124kW and a maximum torque of 250Nm, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

I've been driving the Malibu XL for several years. Its front fog lights are located at the bottom of the front bumper, specifically on the left and right sides below the headlights, appearing as small round or square lights close to the ground to illuminate the lower part of the road. The rear fog light is positioned in the middle or at the bottom of the rear bumper, designed to be simple and eye-catching. The switch is usually on the left-hand stalk near the steering wheel; you need to turn on the headlights first, then rotate or press a button to activate the fog lights. Fog lights are particularly useful in foggy or rainy conditions, illuminating the road to reduce glare and improve visibility by several dozen meters. Remember not to accidentally turn on the fog lights during normal driving, as it wastes electricity and can distract other drivers. Safety comes first, and maintaining your fog lights is also important. When washing your car annually, take a moment to clean the light covers to prevent dust from blocking the light path.

When I first got my Malibu XL, it took me a while to locate the fog lights. There are two small lights on the lower part of the front bumper, right below the headlights—just crouch down to see their recessed design. The rear fog light is at the very bottom of the rear bumper, usually just a small red dot in the middle. Operation is simple: use the stalk on the right side of the steering wheel (or a button on the dashboard for some models), turn on the main lights, then twist the fog light switch. Newbies often misuse fog lights in garages, wasting bulbs and annoying others. In bad weather, fog lights help visibility up to 30-40 meters, but driving in low gear at slow speeds is safer. Regularly check bulbs to avoid sudden failure.

The front fog lights of the Malibu XL are installed in the lower area of the front bumper, symmetrically placed on both sides, specifically positioned directly below the headlights near the wheels. The rear fog light is located at the central bottom of the rear bumper, appearing as a distinct small red light. The interior switch is typically a rotary knob on the left stalk of the steering wheel, requiring the headlights to be turned on first before operating the fog lights. This design directs the light beam downward, preventing excessive glare when driving in foggy conditions. Remember to use them only in low visibility situations and avoid unnecessary energy consumption by turning them on during normal conditions. Regular cleaning can help extend the lifespan of the lights.
