The Shandong section of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway has a planned construction period of 42 months and is scheduled to be completed and open to traffic in 2022. The expansion project spans a total length of 282 kilometers, adopting the technical standard of a two-way eight-lane expressway for reconstruction and expansion, with a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The Beijing-Taipei Expressway is one of the seven capital radial lines in the national expressway network and an important component of the 'nine vertical, five horizontal, one ring, seven radials, and multiple connections' layout in Shandong's expressway network planning. Shandong High-Speed Group requires all participating construction units to take innovation as the guide, comprehensively build a quality project, implement standardized design, factory prefabrication, assembly construction, and information management, improve construction progress and quality, ensure early completion and opening to traffic, and deliver a satisfactory project to the provincial party committee, provincial government, and the people of the province.
I remember the Shandong section of the Beijing-Taiwan Expressway was fully completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2021. I've driven there several times and found it much smoother than before. There was a section under maintenance in 2020, often requiring detours or causing traffic jams. Now, the road is wider and flatter, and the increased speed limit saves a lot of time. When I travel long distances in Shandong, I use navigation apps to check real-time traffic conditions because new service areas have been added along the route after completion, making it more convenient to stop and rest. Gas stations have also updated their equipment, so refueling doesn’t involve waiting in line. After the expressway was fully opened, tourism also boomed. Weekend trips to places like Taierzhuang or Jinan are much shorter now, greatly improving the travel experience. I suggest fellow drivers avoid peak hours and enjoy some light music for a more pleasant drive.
