When to Use the S Gear in an Automatic Transmission Car?
1 Answers
S gear is used in the following situations: 1. When overtaking. 2. When climbing steep slopes, especially those requiring more power. 3. When descending slopes. 4. For older cars with insufficient power, S gear can be used for starting. 5. Occasionally use S gear. When using S gear, the following points should be noted: 1. Higher fuel consumption. Due to increased fuel injection at high RPM, S mode consumes significantly more fuel than normal mode. For example, while D mode may consume around 10L per 100km, S mode can reach 12L or even 13L in instantaneous consumption. 2. Avoid starting in S gear unless quick overtaking or heavy air conditioning use is required, as high RPM increases engine pressure. 3. Avoid using S gear for high-speed cruising. S gear is suitable for speeds below 90km/h, as it doesn't shift to 3rd gear. Using S gear for high-speed cruising keeps the engine at high RPM for prolonged periods, affecting its lifespan. 4. S gear should not be used frequently unless necessary. While it can instantly increase RPM for overtaking, S gear only delays upshifts without altering other operations, increasing transmission load and temperature in the short term, leading to accelerated wear.
