When to Switch to Winter Windshield Washer Fluid?
1 Answers
Normally, when the temperature drops below 0 degrees Celsius, it's time to change the windshield washer fluid. However, due to significant winter temperature differences between northern and southern regions in China, the timing should be determined based on local temperatures. For example, in some southern areas where winter temperatures remain above 0 degrees Celsius, switching to winter fluid may not be necessary at all. In northeastern regions, the change might be required before November. Below are key considerations when switching to winter windshield washer fluid: 1. Replace with winter fluid before temperatures consistently drop below freezing. When temperatures fluctuate around 0°C, mixing in some winter fluid can help lower the freezing point. Once temperatures consistently stay below 0°C, completely switch to winter fluid. Before changing, drain all remaining summer fluid from the reservoir and then fill with winter fluid. If the fluid has already frozen, park the car in a heated garage for 4-6 hours until the ice completely melts before spraying. 2. Avoid continuous spraying of washer fluid when the engine is off. When the spray becomes intermittent or the flow noticeably decreases, this indicates the reservoir is nearly empty - stop spraying at this point. Residual summer fluid won't affect usage, but continued dry operation can damage the washer pump motor.
