
Karl Benz is widely credited with inventing the first automobile, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, built in 1885–1886. This three-wheeled, gasoline-powered car featured a single-cylinder engine producing 0.75 horsepower. It’s recognized as the first true vehicle for personal transportation and the start of the modern automotive era.
