C1 driver's license cannot drive: Large buses, tractors, city buses, medium-sized buses, large trucks, ordinary three-wheeled motorcycles, ordinary two-wheeled motorcycles, light motorcycles, wheeled self-propelled machinery vehicles, trolleybuses, and trams. At the same time, the C1 license cannot drive vehicles with more than 9 seats, nor can it drive trucks with a total length exceeding 6 meters. Permitted vehicle types: The driving scope of a C1 driver's license includes small and micro passenger cars, as well as light and micro trucks; light, small, and micro special operation vehicles; small passenger cars with a seating capacity of 9 or fewer people.
When I first got my C1 driver's license, I researched what vehicles I could drive, and there are quite a few that this license doesn't cover. Apart from motorcycles which require an E license, those three-wheeled motorcycles with yellow plates are also off-limits, as are extended luxury cars like limousines or Maybachs exceeding 6 meters in length. There are even more restrictions for cargo vehicles—blue-plate trucks are allowed, but the total weight must not exceed 4.5 tons. When you see a 4.2-meter box truck, check the weight plate first. What’s even trickier is that 9-seater vans like the Jinbei or Transit, which look like small passenger vehicles, actually require a B license. Nowadays, many C1 beginners get tripped up by light trailer towing—you need a C6 license to tow an RV. And don’t even think about modified vehicles; removing the back seats of a van to haul cargo can get you a straight 12-point deduction if caught.
