Beijing Hyundai ix35 uses a total of three types of transmissions, namely a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 6-speed automatic manual transmission. More information about the transmissions is as follows: 1. The structure of the dual-clutch transmission is similar to that of a manual transmission. In fact, this type of transmission is developed based on the manual transmission. 2. Compared to traditional manual transmissions, the dual-clutch transmission has shorter shift times and lower power transmission losses. In the new generation of dual-clutch transmissions, the issue of overheating that previously led to frequent shift errors has been resolved, with improved heat resistance. Additionally, the dual-clutch transmission is relatively lightweight, which can reduce the weight in the engine compartment and provide better driving operability. It allows for faster speed increases and smaller power transmission losses.

I've driven the older ix35, which used Hyundai's in-house 6-speed automatic transmission with the code A6LF2. The shift smoothness was quite good for its time. I remember models before the 2015 version had a 4AT option, which was later upgraded across the lineup. The newer models now come with either a 7-speed dry dual-clutch or 6AT, depending on the year. Personally, I feel Korean cars' transmission tuning tends to be conservative, but they make up for it with durability, making them sufficient for city commuting. If you want peace of mind, avoiding the dual-clutch versions might be wiser.
