Geely Emgrand uses 5W40 engine oil, which serves functions such as lubrication and wear reduction, auxiliary cooling, sealing and leak prevention, rust and corrosion protection, and shock absorption for the engine. Taking the 2020 Geely Emgrand GL as an example, here are the relevant details: 1. Dimensions: It is a compact car with body dimensions of 4725mm in length, 1802mm in width, and 1478mm in height, a wheelbase of 2700mm, a fuel tank capacity of 55 liters, and a curb weight of 1335kg. 2. Suspension: The 2020 Geely Emgrand GL features a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent suspension. 3. Powertrain: It is equipped with a 1.4L turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 141PS, a maximum power of 104kW, and a maximum torque of 235Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

My Geely Emgrand has always used 5W-30 full synthetic oil, which is the most suitable viscosity for this engine. The manufacturer's manual recommends this grade—it flows well during cold starts and provides adequate protection at high temperatures. A while ago, I tried my friend's 0W-20 oil, but the engine noise increased, and the power felt sluggish when driving on the highway. Now, I stick to Shell Helix Ultra, changing it every 8,000 kilometers or so. After each maintenance, I noticeably feel the throttle is more responsive, and the fuel consumption stays stable at around 7 liters per 100 km. I recommend not switching to lower-viscosity oil casually, as the Emgrand's engine isn't as precision-built, and using thinner oil could lead to more wear.

We recommend Geely Emgrand owners to prioritize 5W-30 full synthetic engine oil, as this specification is most suitable for daily use. Last winter I switched to 5W-40 oil, which resulted in longer cold-start times and a fuel consumption increase of about 0.5L/100km. Currently, both Castrol Magnatec and Mobil 1 work well - the choice mainly depends on discount offers. Remember during last year's Double 11 shopping festival, I stocked up six liters for just over 300 yuan, half the price of dealership service. For oil filters, Mann or Mahle brands work perfectly when used in combination. If you frequently take long-distance trips, you can shorten the oil change interval to 7,000 km, while 8,000 km is completely sufficient for city driving.

The Emgrand's factory recommends 5W-30 oil, with full synthetic being better. I used to opt for semi-synthetic to save money, but the oil turned black before reaching 6,000 km, and the engine sound became rough. Later, I switched to Great Wall Jinjixing full synthetic oil and noticed significantly smoother cold starts and reduced idle vibration. Now, I always make sure the mechanic adds exactly 4L during oil changes—adding more actually increases fuel consumption. Don't fall for repair shops pushing higher viscosity oil; using 40 viscosity in the Emgrand's engine actually increases resistance. Bringing your own oil for maintenance is the most cost-effective, saving you around a hundred yuan.

The Difference Between Independent Suspension and Non-independent Suspension

The differences between independent suspension and non-independent suspension are: 1. Different structures: Independent suspension means each side's wheels are individually connected to the body via elastic suspension; Non-independent suspension means both sides' wheels are connected by an integrated frame, with the wheels and axle together suspended under the body. 2. Different characteristics: Independent suspension reduces overall body impact and improves wheel traction; Non-independent suspension features simple design structure, lighter weight, and smaller space occupation. Additionally, their classifications differ: Independent suspension mainly includes MacPherson strut, double wishbone, multi-link, etc., and most modern cars adopt independent suspension systems; Non-independent suspension commonly includes torsion beam, trailing arm, and leaf spring types.

What is the fuel tank capacity of a 2012 Passat?

The 2013 Passat, launched in 2012, comes with 11 variants, all featuring a fuel tank capacity of 70 liters. The vehicle is equipped with 1.4L, 1.8L, 2.0L turbocharged, and 3.0L naturally aspirated engines. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed wet dual-clutch, and 7-speed dry dual-clutch gearboxes. All variants are front-wheel drive. The 2014 and 2015 Passat models also have a 70-liter fuel tank. Starting from the 2016 model, the fuel tank capacity of the Passat decreased slightly: the 2016 and 2017 models have a 69-liter tank, the 2019 and 2020 models have a 66-liter tank, and the 2021 and 2022 models feature a 68.5-liter tank. During actual refueling, the amount of fuel may exceed the calibrated capacity. This is because the fuel tank capacity specified by the manufacturer is measured from the bottom of the tank to the safety limit. There is additional space from the safety limit to the tank opening, which is designed to allow for fuel expansion due to temperature increases without causing overflow. If fuel is filled up to the tank opening during refueling, the actual amount of fuel added may exceed the calibrated tank capacity. To check the remaining fuel level, drivers can observe the fuel gauge on the right side of the instrument panel, marked with 'E' and 'F'. When the needle is close to 'E', it indicates low fuel, while nearing 'F' means the tank is nearly full.
