What type of engine oil should be used for Emgrand GL maintenance?

Emgrand GL maintenance uses 5W40 engine oil. Engine oil is a substance enhanced with additives in base oil, mainly containing anti-wear additives, detergents, dispersants, and multi-grade oil viscosity index improvers. Engine oil is used for lubrication in internal combustion engines, with its primary functions being to reduce friction and wear on moving parts, and to remove sludge and paint deposits from the engine. The Emgrand GL measures 4725mm in length, 1802mm in width, and 1478mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2700mm, and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. This vehicle is a 4-door, 5-seater sedan under the Geely Automobile brand, with a fuel tank capacity of 55L and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.
When I was maintaining my Emgrand GL, I specifically researched the engine oil issue. This car generally uses 5W-30, especially the turbocharged 1.4T engine which must use this viscosity. Remember to choose synthetic oil that meets A3/B4 certification for better high-temperature protection. The manual recommends SN grade or above, and the Shell Helix Ultra I used last time was very smooth. In regions with winter temperatures below -20°C, 0W-30 can be used for easier cold starts. Never opt for cheap mineral oil—my neighbor tried saving money with mineral oil, and after 5,000 km the engine sounded like a tractor. The 4S shop will use original fully synthetic oil for maintenance, but you can save 30% by buying the same grade oil yourself.
Just helped a colleague change the oil in their Emgrand GL a couple of days ago. For the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine, using 5W-30 full synthetic is the safest bet. The key is to look for the ACEA A5/B5 or API SP certification marks, as these oils offer better cleaning and anti-wear properties. The OEM oil from the 4S shop labeled with GF-6 standard is actually sufficient, but buying from major brands during promotions is more cost-effective. Special attention: turbocharged models must use full synthetic oil, as mineral oil can lead to insufficient lubrication of the turbocharger. It's best not to exceed a maintenance interval of 7,500 km, and for those who frequently drive short distances, it's advisable to change the oil at 5,000 km.
