What type of engine oil is used for the Boyue?

Boyue uses 5w40 engine oil. In 5w40, the 'w' stands for winter. The number before 'w' indicates the oil's low-temperature fluidity—the smaller the number, the better the fluidity at low temperatures. The number after 'w' represents the oil's high-temperature resistance—the larger the number, the better the protection at high temperatures. The functions of engine oil include lubrication and wear reduction, auxiliary cooling, sealing and leakage prevention, rust and corrosion protection, and shock absorption. Taking the 2021 Boyue as an example, it is a compact SUV with body dimensions of 4519mm in length, 1831mm in width, 1694mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2670mm.
I've been driving the Boyue 1.8T for three years and always use 5W-40 full synthetic oil. The Geely official manual clearly states that turbocharged engines require high-viscosity oil to protect the turbo shaft. During my last maintenance at the 4S shop, the technician specifically warned against switching to 5W-30, as the oil film might not be thick enough during cold winter starts. I've tried Shell Helix Ultra and Great Wall Dry Series, both performed well, especially on long trips where the engine sound remains exceptionally stable. By the way, don't exceed 7,500 kilometers between oil changes; if there's a lot of city traffic congestion, it's advisable to change it earlier at around 6,000 kilometers.
Attention to new owners of Boyue PRO! Your 1.5T engine requires 0W-20 low-ash oil with SP/GF-6A certification on the packaging. Last winter I mistakenly used 5W-40 and fuel consumption jumped by 2L/100km immediately. Currently, dealerships use OEM full-synthetic oil - if purchasing yourself, look for Mobil ESP or Shell Helix Ultra Asia Special. The free first service uses this exact specification, don't be fooled into upgrading to other grades. Regular oil dipstick checks are crucial as turbocharged engines tend to consume oil.
