What type of engine oil is used for JMC Kairun?

JMC Kairun uses engine oil models CI-4 15W40 and CI-4 20W50. For winter routine maintenance, CI-4 15W40 can be chosen, while for summer maintenance, CI-4 20W50 is recommended. If you wish to change the engine oil during later maintenance, you can opt for brands like Shell, Castrol, or Mobil. The viscosity of engine oil changes with temperature, so special attention must be paid to its performance under both low and high temperatures. For example, in 5W-30, the first number indicates low-temperature fluidity. 5W means it can withstand temperatures as low as -30°C. The smaller this number, the better the low-temperature fluidity, ensuring smoother cold starts for the vehicle in low temperatures. The latter number represents the kinematic viscosity of the oil at 100°C. A higher value indicates better viscosity retention under high temperatures, which can also be understood as better lubrication performance under high-temperature conditions. The method for changing the engine oil in a JMC Kairun is as follows: Wait for the engine temperature to drop, allowing the oil to flow back into the oil pan. Use a wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and place an oil pan underneath to catch the old oil until the flow stops completely. Start the engine and let it run for 30 seconds to allow the oil in the main oil passage to drain out. Use a specialized wrench to remove the oil filter. Apply some engine oil to the oil seal of the new oil filter and tighten it clockwise by hand. Add the new engine oil through the filler cap on the engine valve cover. Typically, fill about three-quarters of a standard oil container. Start the engine and let it run for 5 minutes, then check for any oil leaks around the oil drain plug and oil filter. If leaks are found, perform necessary repairs. After stopping the engine, pull out the oil dipstick to check that the engine oil level is within the standard range.
I drove the JMC Kaijun for several years and found that choosing the right engine oil is particularly crucial. This model usually comes with a diesel engine, and I recommend using SAE 15W-40 viscosity oil with an API rating of CF-4 or CI-4. Diesel engines have a high compression ratio, so they need oil with better wear resistance. If you use the wrong type, such as gasoline engine oil, it can lead to carbon buildup or increased fuel consumption. I typically change the oil every 5,000 kilometers or so, along with a new oil filter, to keep the engine running smoothly. Oil quality is also important—don’t skimp and buy low-quality products. Good oil ensures better cold starts and stable performance in warm weather. Remember to check the recommended specifications in the owner’s manual, as there might be slight variations for different model years, but 15W-40 is generally a safe choice.
