What Type of Engine Oil is Best for Turbocharged Engines?

Turbocharged engines are recommended to use fully synthetic engine oil. The maintenance methods for turbocharged engines are as follows: 1. Avoid driving without warming up the engine. Especially in winter, let the engine idle for a period of time to allow the lubricating oil to fully lubricate the bearings before the turbocharger rotor operates at high speed. Therefore, do not rev the engine aggressively immediately after starting to prevent damage to the turbocharger oil seal. 2. Do not shut off the engine immediately. After prolonged high-speed operation, let the engine idle for 3-5 minutes before shutting it off. During engine operation, some engine oil is supplied to lubricate the turbocharger rotor bearings and for cooling. If the engine is suddenly stopped, the oil pressure will drop rapidly to zero. 3. The high temperature from the turbocharger turbine section transfers to the center, and the heat in the bearing housing cannot be dissipated quickly. Meanwhile, the turbocharger rotor continues to spin at high speed due to inertia. If the engine is suddenly stopped while hot, the trapped oil in the turbocharger may overheat, damaging the bearings and shaft.
