The Excelle uses 5W30 engine oil. The functions of engine oil include: lubrication and wear reduction, auxiliary cooling, sealing and leak prevention, rust and corrosion protection, and shock absorption. Taking the 2020 Buick Excelle as an example, it is a compact car with body dimensions of: length 4468mm, width 1765mm, height 1469mm, a wheelbase of 2611mm, a fuel tank capacity of 40 liters, and a curb weight of 1070kg. The 2020 Buick Excelle features a MacPherson strut front suspension and a compound torsion beam rear suspension. It has a maximum horsepower of 107ps, a maximum torque of 133Nm, a maximum power of 79kW, and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

I've reviewed several Excelle owner's manuals, which clearly recommend 5W-30 viscosity oil. Particularly for turbocharged models, it's mandatory to use oil with the GM Dexos certification mark. For major brands like Shell and Mobil that I frequently purchase, as long as the bottle bears the Dexos1 logo, it's safe to use. Older naturally aspirated engines can manage with mineral oil, but newer engines should at least use semi-synthetic. Don't exceed an oil change interval of 8,000 kilometers, and remember to replace the oil filter simultaneously. In southern regions with high summer temperatures, trying 0W-30 can offer better cold-start fluidity. Last week, I helped a neighbor change to Mobil 1 Gold, and the engine noise became noticeably quieter.

My decade-old Excelle has been running on Shell Helix HX7 5W-30 semi-synthetic oil, with each oil change costing just over 300 yuan. I once tried switching to 0W-40 full synthetic but found it less fuel-efficient. The mechanic said older cars might not seal properly with lower viscosity oil, and extra caution is needed for vehicles with piston ring wear. Most importantly, that little green 'dexos' label on the oil cap is essential - missing it could trigger the check engine light. Once I bought uncertified oil to save money, and the engine started making a ticking noise. Now I always check GM's official certification list before oil - it's more important than brand recognition.

Three common service options at repair shops: conventional mineral oil 5W-30 for basic (around 180 yuan), semi-synthetic for higher requirements (approximately 260 yuan), and full synthetic for ultimate protection (starting from 400 yuan). Special note: the 1.6L naturally aspirated engine oil capacity should not exceed 4.3 liters - overfilling will exceed the dipstick's upper limit. We've encountered owners bringing their own 0W-20 oil, resulting in tractor-like cold starts that only normalized after switching to 5W-30. Turbocharged engines must use SP-grade full synthetic oil, otherwise turbo bearings are prone to coking. During oil changes, always check the valve cover gasket as this model is particularly prone to oil seepage.

Understand the letters in oil grades first: The W in 5W stands for winter fluidity—the lower the number, the smoother the cold starts. The 30 afterward indicates high-temperature viscosity, and 30 is the safest choice for the Excelle. In northern regions with winter temperatures below -20°C, 0W-30 is recommended. Look for ACEA A5/B5 or API SP certification on the back of the oil container, and the presence of the GM dexos1 certification adds reliability. Full synthetic oil has a more stable molecular structure, especially reducing sludge buildup during frequent short trips. Last year, tests comparing semi-synthetic and full synthetic oils from the same brand showed that after 5,000 km of continuous driving, the full synthetic oil's resistance to degradation was significantly better.

I've seen too many cases of using the wrong oil during at 4S shops. The new Excelle 1.3T three-cylinder engine must use 0W-20 full synthetic oil with Dexos1 Gen2 certification, while regular 5W-30 may clog the particulate filter. Hybrid models require even lower ash content oil. When buying oil yourself, pay attention to the production date, and don't use oil that has been opened for more than six months. Remember the half bucket of oil left from the last maintenance? Three months later, the oil separated like jelly. Don't mix different brands of oil—mixing Mobil and Castrol actually caused flocculent precipitates. After maintenance, keep photos of the oil containers for accountability in case of problems.
