What transmissions is Mobil ATF 220 suitable for?

Mobil ATF 220 is suitable for use in AT transmissions, but there are some special AT transmissions that cannot use this transmission fluid. Cars' automatic transmissions all have transmission fluid inside, which needs to be replaced regularly. If not replaced for a long time, it may cause damage to the automatic transmission. Function: Transmission fluid plays the roles of power transmission, lubrication, and heat dissipation in automatic transmissions. Without transmission fluid, the automatic transmission cannot operate normally. Note: It is recommended to choose original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products when replacing transmission fluid. OEM products have been tested by car manufacturers, and OEM transmission fluid can meet the needs of the transmission under various working conditions. When replacing transmission fluid, it is recommended to use the circulating machine method for replacement.
As an experienced car owner who often helps neighbors with car repairs, I've changed transmission fluid quite a few times. Mobil ATF 220 is primarily designed for older hydraulic transmissions, such as Honda's BAYA/MPYA series automatic transmissions from the 1990s (like the old Accord), and Mitsubishi's early F4A22 transmission series. I've been using it in my 2002 Sonata. However, this fluid only meets the outdated DEXRON-II standard, so never use it in newer transmissions! Many modern cars require SP-III or higher-grade fluids, and using the wrong type can cause shifting issues. If you're looking to buy it, be aware that it's now marketed as Mobil ATF 220 Gold, but it's essentially the same old formula.
With eight years of experience in an auto repair shop, I've handled maintenance for hundreds of transmissions. Mobil ATF220 was commonly used in pre-2005 Japanese and Korean vehicles: Honda's D-series engines paired with automatic transmissions, such as the Civic ED and City; older Hyundai Accent/Elantra models with 4-speed automatic transmissions; and some Mitsubishi Pajero V4A51 transmissions. Special attention is needed as this oil is mineral-based and must not be mixed with CVT or dual-clutch transmissions! Last time, a customer mistakenly added it to a new Teana, resulting in complete transmission failure. Nowadays, most vehicles require full synthetic oils like ATF660.
