The Baojun 630 automatic model is equipped with the General Motors GF6 front-wheel-drive six-speed automatic transmission. Currently, this transmission system is also used in multiple models such as the Regal, LaCrosse, Cruze, and Excelle. It is currently one of the most mature transmission systems available. From Shanghai Gear Factory: The 5-speed manual transmission comes from the Shanghai Gear Factory. Although many of the Baojun 630's technologies are derived from the Excelle, the Excelle is not equipped with a 1.5L engine, which is one piece of evidence that the Baojun 630 is not simply a rebadged version of the Excelle. Future Plans: Regarding future plans, the manufacturer has revealed some information. In the next one to two years, the Baojun 630 will be equipped with General Motors' 1.8L DVVT engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L engine will also be upgraded with VVT variable valve timing technology and will be matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Baojun 630 automatic model is equipped with a 5-speed AMT semi-automatic transmission. This system is upgraded from a manual transmission, with the computer controlling the clutch and gear shifting, making operation much more effortless. I've driven several models with this setup. The advantages of AMT are its simple structure, low cost, and decent fuel consumption control, making it very economical for daily commuting. However, the downside is that the gear shifting isn't very fast, especially during starts or uphill driving, where the power delivery isn't as smooth, feeling a bit jerky. For new owners, it's just a matter of adapting to the rhythm—don't expect smoothness during rapid acceleration. Additionally, regular maintenance is crucial, such as checking the transmission fluid every two years to avoid electrical issues, which can significantly extend its lifespan. In the Baojun 630, this setup is generally reliable and suitable for family economic needs, but if you're after high-end comfort, you might find it a bit lacking in refinement.
