Transmission of the Trumpchi GM6 is a product of the GAC brand. The transmission is a mechanism used to alter the speed and torque from the engine, capable of fixed or stepped changes in the transmission ratio between the output and input shafts, also known as the gearbox. The functions of the transmission include: 1. Changing the transmission ratio to expand the range of torque and speed variations at the drive wheels. 2. Enabling the vehicle to reverse while maintaining the engine's rotational direction. Classification of transmissions: 1. Stepped transmissions utilize gear mechanisms with several fixed transmission ratios. 2. Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) can achieve any transmission ratio within a continuous range. 3. Integrated transmissions refer to hydromechanical transmissions composed of a torque converter and a geared stepped transmission.

Last time at the repair shop, I heard the mechanic talking about the Trumpchi GM6. The older model used a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is quite mature in technology. It's a traditional AT transmission structure, offering good smoothness when driving, especially with minimal jerkiness during city driving when following other cars. However, fuel consumption is slightly higher due to its more complex structure compared to dual-clutch transmissions. The hydraulic control module of this transmission requires regular maintenance. My neighbor's car started having sluggish gear shifts at 80,000 kilometers, but it became smooth immediately after changing the transmission fluid. The newer models are now called M6, and earlier versions are still quite common in the used car market.

The last batch of GAC Trumpchi GM6 before discontinuation used the Aisin 6AT, which was a relatively generous configuration among family MPVs. The automatic transmission's shifting logic is somewhat conservative, and downshifts during sudden acceleration aren't particularly fast, but it excels in durability. When I drove a friend's model on a long trip, the engine speed was just over 2000 rpm at 100 km/h, and the noise insulation was better than that of dual-clutch transmissions. Remember not to exceed the 60,000 km maintenance interval, and the oil pan filter should be replaced at the same time. In the current used car market, selecting a nearly new model from the 2018 to 2020 model years offers great value for money.

Is it necessary to shift to N gear when having Auto Hold?

Cars equipped with the Auto Hold function do not require shifting to N gear during temporary stops. Auto Hold is essentially an automatic braking feature. When waiting at traffic lights, there is no need to engage the handbrake or electronic parking brake, and consequently, there's no need to change gears. However, in situations of severe traffic congestion where the vehicle remains stationary for extended periods, it is advisable to deactivate the Auto Hold function and switch to manual control by shifting to neutral (N gear). This practice helps protect the transmission and engine, thereby extending their service life. The English term for Auto Hold is 'AutoHold,' and its button is typically marked with a capital letter 'A' or the full English spelling. It relies on an intelligent braking system to function.

Matching RPM and Gears in Manual Transmission?

Manual transmission vehicles require proper gear-speed synchronization as follows: 1st gear at 15 km/h; 2nd gear at 25 km/h; 3rd gear at 35 km/h; 4th gear at 55 km/h; 5th gear at 65 km/h or above. Manual transmission, also called manual gearbox, represents a fundamental type of automotive transmission system. Its primary function is to alter the gear ratio (also known as the torque ratio) by utilizing larger-diameter low-gear wheels based on the lever principle's torque mechanism, thereby amplifying engine torque to initiate vehicle movement. A manual transmission consists of three core components: the gear mechanism, transmission housing, and shift linkage assembly.
