What to Do with Leftover Engine Oil After Maintenance?

Here are the methods for handling leftover engine oil after maintenance: 1. Seal Immediately: After completing maintenance at a 4S shop or repair shop, immediately tighten the cap of the oil bottle or container. Since the tin foil seal has been broken, the remaining cap gasket provides limited isolation. At this point, you can cover the mouth of the bottle or container with a clean plastic film. To avoid tearing, it's best to fold the film several times before covering, then tighten the cap. This method offers better sealing. If possible, you can also apply wax to the cap for additional sealing. 2. Store in a Dry and Dark Place: After sealing the oil bottle, store it in a dry and cool place, ensuring it is not exposed to sunlight to prevent oxidation of the oil inside. 3. Avoid Pouring It All In: When using the stored oil for the next maintenance, do not pour all of it into the engine. Retain a small portion. Generally, after long-term storage, there may be trace amounts of moisture at the bottom of the oil bottle or container. Adding this to the engine could affect its performance or even cause adverse effects.
