What to Do with China V After China VI?

After the implementation of the China VI standard, China V vehicles will not affect normal road use. Vehicles already sold will follow the emission standards at the time of sale, so China V vehicles will still undergo annual inspections using the China V standard. The China VI standard is an upgrade to the China V standard and will become one of the strictest standards globally. Relevant information about China V and China VI is as follows: 1. Compared to the China V standard, China VI will strictly control pollutant emission limits. 2. Excluding the influence of driving conditions and testing, carbon monoxide emissions from gasoline vehicles will be reduced by 50%, total hydrocarbon and non-methane hydrocarbon emission limits will decrease by 50%, and nitrogen oxide emission limits will be tightened by 42%. 3. The new standard is only to constrain automakers, ensuring that sold vehicles meet the China VI standard requirements. For vehicles already purchased under the China V standard, they will still follow the emission status at the time of purchase.
As an ordinary user driving a China V standard vehicle, I was initially quite nervous after the implementation of China VI standards, worrying that my car might face traffic restrictions or rapid depreciation. However, in most cities, China V vehicles can still be used, with only some key environmental protection areas possibly imposing restrictions. I chose to keep driving mine for two main reasons: selling it now wouldn’t fetch much, and with proper maintenance, it can still run for several more years. The key is to regularly check the exhaust emissions to ensure they meet local standards and avoid fines. Additionally, in daily use, I try to minimize driving into the city during peak hours to reduce congestion and emissions, which I feel is better for the environment. In the long run, if policies tighten further, I might consider switching to a new energy vehicle, but there’s no rush for now, especially since I’m familiar with maintaining my China V car and its low upkeep costs.
