What to Do When Your Car Has a Flat Tire on the Road?

It is recommended to change to the spare tire. Here are the relevant instructions: Find a safe location: When the tire is flat, the car can still be driven. The driver needs to pull over to the side of the road and ensure they can find the jack, the wrench for removing the tire nuts, and the spare tire. Park the car and engage the parking brake to prevent the car from moving forward or backward. Use the wrench to loosen the nuts of the flat tire one by one: Generally, turning counterclockwise loosens the nuts; just loosen them. Use the jack: First, locate the steel support point near the tire. Do not place the jack under the door edge; it should generally be about 10 centimeters from the outer edge, ensuring it is on the steel frame of the car. Raise the jack, making sure it remains upright and does not tilt during the process. Once the flat tire is off the ground, stop raising the jack. Then, use the wrench to remove the loosened nuts one by one. Hold the tire that needs to be replaced with both hands and pull it off with force. If it doesn’t come off easily, you can kick the outer edge of the tire to loosen the entire wheel before removing it.
Once while driving on the highway, I suddenly felt the steering wheel pulling slightly and realized a tire might be flat. I immediately slowed down and gradually pulled over to the shoulder, turned on the hazard warning lights, then got out and placed a warning triangle at least 50 meters behind the car to prevent rear-end collisions. Only then did I take out the spare tire and tools to begin the replacement. Following the manual's steps, I first loosened the wheel nuts, then used the jack to lift the car slightly, removed the old tire and replaced it with the spare, tightening the nuts diagonally to ensure safety, and finally lowered the car to check everything was secure. Throughout the process, I remained calm and reminded everyone not to drive too long to avoid damaging the wheel rim. After changing the spare, I drove straight to a professional shop for repairs. I’ve developed the habit of checking tire pressure monthly and keep an air pump in the car for small leaks, which has helped me avoid a lot of trouble.
