What to Do When the Temporary License Plate is About to Expire?

Temporary license plates that have expired but have not yet been replaced with formal vehicle license plates can be extended by applying for continued use of temporary vehicle license plates. However, according to relevant regulations, each vehicle can only apply for a temporary license plate up to three times. After three applications, the system will be locked, and no further applications will be allowed. Below are the relevant considerations regarding temporary license plates: 1. Extension Method: Reapply for a new one. However, if the owner of the vehicle needs to temporarily drive on the road multiple times because the purchased vehicle has not yet been registered, the vehicle management office may issue temporary driving license plates no more than three times. 2. Penalty Plan: According to the "Road Traffic Safety Law," violators will be fined 200 yuan and receive 12 demerit points. Motor vehicles driving on the road must display a vehicle license plate, and the applied temporary license plate must be renewed before expiration or replaced with a formal license plate. An expired temporary license plate is considered invalid and equivalent to not displaying a license plate. Driving with an expired temporary license plate will be severely penalized.
