What to Do When Car Tire Won't Come Off

You can kick the wheel with your foot, but be careful not to use too much force. This can help break some rusted parts, allowing the tire to be removed. Place a wooden board tightly against the inner side of the tire, then use a large hammer to strike the board. Rotate the wheel and strike the board every quarter turn.
Last time when I couldn't get my tire off no matter what, my neighbor Old Zhang taught me a great trick. First, use a sledgehammer to evenly tap around the tire edge a few times to loosen the rust debris. If it's still stuck, stand on the wrench with your full body weight and step down, making sure the tire is suspended in the air. If all else fails, go borrow an impact wrench from the auto repair shop - that thing has tremendous power. After getting it off, remember to apply some anti-seize lubricant to the wheel hub center. I've been using this every tire change since then and never encountered a stuck situation again. Also try to avoid parking in water for extended periods, as that's how rust forms.
