What to Do When a Car's Valve Core Leaks Air?

If you find that the valve core of your tire is leaking air, the cause is likely due to aging of the valve stem. In this case, you need to replace the old valve stem with a new one, which involves cutting off the old valve stem and installing the new one. The rubber washer under the screw is usually the cause of the valve core leaking air. Therefore, before installation, make sure to clean any debris around the installation area of the valve stem on the rim. Then, cut a section from the old inner tube that includes the valve stem, and cut out a circle about 2 centimeters in diameter around the valve stem. Place one rubber circle onto the valve stem and install it onto the rim. Then, fit another rubber circle over the valve stem on the outside of the rim.
I've been driving for over a decade and have encountered valve core leaks several times. The first time I noticed my tire slowly going flat, I panicked. Later I learned to check with soapy water: apply it around the valve core and look for tiny bubbles to confirm the leak point. If it's just a loose valve core, gently tighten it with a wrench; if it's damaged, spend a few dollars to buy a new valve core for replacement. When washing your car, pay attention to cleaning the tire pressure port to prevent dust blockage. Don't push your luck with serious leaks - drive immediately to a repair shop for thorough inspection to avoid major tire issues compromising safety. Prevention is key - I check tire pressure weekly to detect and address problems early, saving both hassle and money.
