If your driver's license has expired within one year, the traffic management department will not impose penalties as long as you do not drive. You only need to go to the vehicle management office to renew it. If the expiration period exceeds one year but is less than two years, you must retake the subject one exam and pass it before renewal. If the driver's license has expired for more than two years, you must retake the driver's license exam. The following is the legal basis: Article 63 of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses": If a motor vehicle driver is unable to renew the driver's license, undergo inspection, or submit a physical condition certificate within the specified time due to reasons such as military service or going abroad (border), they can apply to the vehicle management office where the driver's license was issued for an extension. When applying, an application form should be filled out, and the identity proof of the motor vehicle driver, the motor vehicle driver's license, and proof of the reason for the extension should be submitted. The extension period shall not exceed three years. During this period, the motor vehicle driver is not allowed to drive a motor vehicle.
