What to do if the driver's license has exceeded the verification period by three months?

Exceeding the renewal deadline by more than one year will result in cancellation, and you can reapply at the vehicle management office. The "Administrative Measures for Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses of the People's Republic of China" has corresponding provisions: Article 27: The vehicle management office shall cancel the motor vehicle driver's license and note it in the registration materials under any of the following circumstances: 1. The holder dies; 2. Physical conditions change and are no longer suitable for driving a motor vehicle; 3. Exceeding the renewal deadline by more than one year; 4. Altering or fraudulently obtaining a motor vehicle driver's license; 5. Without justifiable reason, failing to accept traffic violation or accident handling for more than three months.
My driver's license also expired for about three months last time, and I was quite nervous, so I rushed to the DMV to ask. They said as long as it hasn't expired for more than a year, the process is quite simple. I brought my ID card, old driver's license, got a medical examination report from a designated hospital, took a few passport photos, and then filled out a form to submit. It took about a week to get the new license. During this period, absolutely do not drive. If you get caught by traffic police, the fine starts at 200 yuan, and you might also get points deducted—totally not worth it. I also heard some people forget about it and delay for more than half a year, then they have to retake the theory test, which is a huge hassle. I suggest everyone set a reminder on their phones two months before the license expires—it saves both trouble and money.
