What to Do If a Lead-Acid Battery Gets Water Inside?

Open the battery cover plate and pour out all the internal electrolyte, then let it dry. Generally, a lead-acid battery has six grids. Fill each grid with new electrolyte until full, but try not to overflow too much. Connect the battery in series as before and charge it using a charger. The added electrolyte may boil over and spill out. At this point, use a cloth to wipe away the spilled water until the battery is fully charged and no more water emerges. Unplug the charger and wait about 30 minutes before reattaching the battery's vent caps and cover plate.
