For the Subject 4 exam, you only need to bring your ID card; no other items are required. The Subject 4 exam consists of 50 questions, presented in the form of case studies, images, animations, etc., with a full score of 100 and a passing score of 90. Subject 4, also known as the Subject 4 theory test or driver theory test, is part of the motor vehicle driver's license assessment. After the implementation of the Ministry of Public Security's Order No. 123, the Subject 3 exam was divided into two parts: the road test and an additional safety and civility knowledge test, commonly referred to as "Subject 4," which assesses "driving ethics." Since this test is conducted after Subject 3, it is commonly called the Subject 4 exam, although officially, there is no such term as Subject 4. If you fail Subject 4, you do not need to retake the previously passed subjects (Subject 1, Subject 2, Subject 3). You can schedule a retake on your own, and no retake fee is required. There are no scheduling restrictions, but the driving skills test permit is valid for three years. If the applicant fails to complete the exams within this period, the passed subject scores will become invalid.
When I took the Subject 4 exam, I was particularly excited. As a novice candidate, the first thing to bring is the original ID card—without it, you can't even enter the test center. The exam admission ticket is also crucial; you can download and print a copy in advance from the traffic management app and carry it in your bag. Storing an electronic version on your phone is also good, but some test centers have poor signals, so a paper copy is safer. On the exam day, it's advisable to arrive half an hour early and check the location to avoid being late. Your phone must be set to silent or turned off to prevent ringtones from disrupting the exam atmosphere. Personally, I also like to bring a pen and a bottle of water—though not mandatory, they come in handy when signing forms or staying alert. In terms of content, Subject 4 mostly tests safety rules, so reviewing the question bank thoroughly is sufficient. Additionally, wear comfortable clothes as the test center might have air conditioning; getting enough sleep ensures good mental clarity, which affects performance. If you forget your ID, bring a backup document like a driver's license learning certificate just in case.
