What Lights to Turn On When Driving into a Tunnel?
1 Answers
When driving into a tunnel, turn on the contour lights and low-beam headlights. It is not recommended to use high-beam headlights in either one-way or two-way tunnels. Using high beams in two-way tunnels can impair the vision of oncoming drivers, while in one-way tunnels, high beams reflect off the rearview mirrors of vehicles ahead, which can hinder the driver's ability to observe the road conditions behind them and may also affect their driving mood. Before entering a tunnel, it is essential to slow down in advance, turn on the lights, and pay attention to the traffic signs at the tunnel entrance, especially speed limit indicators. Once inside the tunnel, avoid overtaking, speeding, stopping, or making U-turns. Additionally, maintain a safe following distance, as the significant difference in light levels when entering and exiting the tunnel can cause temporary visual disorientation.
