If you spot a DS6 on the road, you might think its size and luxury vibe resemble a midsize SUV, but actually it's a premium contender in the compact SUV segment. With a wheelbase of around 2.73 meters, the DS6 is about ten centimeters longer than mainstream compact SUVs like the Tiguan, yet five to six centimeters shorter than an Audi Q5. At its Paris Motor Show debut, DS positioned it as a 'light luxury' model targeting entry-level luxury SUVs like the X1. What I appreciate most is its completely flat rear floor design – super practical for weekend camping gear hauling, a clear step above utilitarian family SUVs like the CR-V. The French-tuned chassis delivers agile urban handling, though serious off-road capability requires opting for the 4WD version.

When I test-drove the DS6 last time, I specifically measured the trunk space. In its regular state, it's around 460L, and with the rear seats folded down, it can expand to just over 1500L. This level of space sits between the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1, offering two to three more suitcases' worth of capacity compared to a typical compact SUV. In actual driving, the vehicle feels slightly lower in height than the Audi Q3, but the interior features NAPPA leather and the center console boasts guilloché engraving craftsmanship, bringing its luxury level close to that of a midsize SUV. With a ground clearance of 210mm, it handles speed bumps effortlessly in daily use. For serious off-road conditions, I'd recommend opting for the version equipped with the Grip Control multi-terrain system.

The DS6 is indeed a bit difficult to position. In terms of size, its 4.55-meter length places it between the Q3 and XT5, leaning more towards a compact luxury SUV. Interestingly, during its launch, the brand emphasized its spacious five-seater layout, with rear-row lateral width being over 100mm wider than its sibling, the DS5. The interior comes standard with dual-stitched leather dashboard—a rare feature even among mainstream midsize SUVs. It was offered with two engine options: a base 1.6T suitable for city commuting, while the 1.8T variant could accelerate from 0-100km/h in just over 8 seconds, delivering sharper handling than many midsize SUVs.
