Haval H5 is a compact SUV. In terms of powertrain: The 2018 Haval H5 Classic Edition continues with the 2.0T turbocharged engine from the 2016 model. This turbocharged engine, codenamed 4G63S4T, is derived from Mitsubishi, with a maximum power of 140kW (190PS) and a maximum torque of 250Nm, paired with a traditional 6-speed manual transmission. Drive system: The four-wheel drive structure of the Haval H5 is relatively simple, adopting the vertical four-wheel drive structure commonly found in hardcore off-road vehicles. The four-wheel drive form is a part-time electronically controlled four-wheel drive, with three driving modes: 2H, 4H, and 4L, and a transmission ratio of 2:1.

Last time I bought a car, I carefully researched the Haval H5. It falls into the mid-size SUV category with moderate dimensions—about 4.7 meters in length—which is much more spacious than compact SUVs. It drives quite steadily with high ground clearance, making it suitable for both off-road scenarios and daily city use. In terms of classification, it has a rugged style rather than being an ordinary urban SUV, leaning more towards practicality and durability. The price is affordable, just over 100,000 RMB, offering high value for money. As a user, I found its spacious interior convenient for hauling goods or family trips. Although the fuel consumption is slightly higher, it's acceptable. On a related note, the Haval brand has built a solid reputation in recent years, with the H5 series emphasizing reliability, making it a good option for beginners to consider.

From an automotive enthusiast's perspective, the Haval H5 belongs to the rugged midsize SUV category. Its chassis is based on a pickup platform, offering good ground clearance and decent off-road capability. In terms of class, its dimensions are comparable to Japanese counterparts like the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, but with a more affordable price tag. After driving several SUVs, I find the H5's handling to be on the firmer side, making it suitable for off-road enthusiasts. Regarding classification in the Chinese market, it's typically determined by wheelbase and intended use—the H5's 2.8-meter-plus wheelbase places it in the midsize-to-large segment. It also emphasizes durability, high parts commonality, and low maintenance costs.

Our family has been using the Haval H5 for over two years. It's positioned as a mid-size SUV, providing ample space for five people to sit comfortably. In terms of class, it's much more practical than compact SUVs, especially with its large trunk. It's worry-free for daily driving, handling both city commutes and suburban outings without issues. In terms of relevance, the Haval series commonly features this class, and while the H5's configuration isn't luxurious, it includes all the essential functions.
