What kind of oil is used in a road roller transmission?

Road roller transmissions use No. 20 gear oil. Generally, the manual or filling port will specify the model and specifications. It is important not to replace it arbitrarily. Method for checking the transmission oil of a road roller: First, start the road roller and let it run for 3 minutes, then check the oil dipstick. The oil level should be in the middle of the scale. The transmission oil of a road roller should be changed every 500 to 800 hours. Maintenance of the road roller transmission: Clean at least once every season. When cleaning, first stop the machine while it is still warm, unscrew the oil drain plug on the side of the transmission, and drain the lubricating oil. Then screw the plug back in, fill the transmission with kerosene, start the diesel engine, and let the transmission run at low speed for 2 to 3 minutes. Stop the engine, drain the kerosene, clean the oil plug, and screw it back onto the transmission. Then add new lubricating oil. Check the positioning device: Regularly inspect and adjust the positioning devices of the gearshift control mechanism and the reversing mechanism to ensure the gears remain in the correct position and prevent disengagement accidents. Check for leaks: Regularly inspect the seals of the transmission for leaks and replace any damaged seals promptly. Check the bolts: Regularly inspect the bolts connecting the transmission to the frame and tighten them if necessary to prevent loosening or falling off.
Having operated a road roller for so many years, using the wrong transmission oil can be disastrous. Generally, we use 85W-90 grade gear oil, which has sufficient viscosity at high temperatures to withstand the impact during rolling. My old partner once told me never to use regular engine oil as a substitute—it doesn't provide enough lubrication. Last time he tried to save money by using automotive engine oil, the transmission bearings burned out within three months, costing over 20,000 yuan to repair. The manuals for XCMG and SANY road rollers on the construction site clearly specify GL-5 grade oil, and anti-freeze additives are necessary for winter operations. Don’t neglect the oil change intervals either—I change it every 500 working hours and always clean the filter screen during the process for extra safety.
