What kind of adhesive should be used for car trunk leaks?

Foundry adhesive can be used for repairs. The reasons for trunk leaks are as follows: 1. Worn or aged sealing strips: Worn or aged sealing strips or trunk deformation can cause trunk leaks. Check if the tailgate rubber strip shows signs of aging, wear, or cracking. If the vehicle has been in an accident before and leaks after repair, inspect whether the sealing rubber strip applied post-repair is not tight enough or if there are cracks in the repaired area. 2. Detached or damaged sealing strips: If the sealing strip around the rear taillight connector is detached or damaged, water can flow into the trunk from the taillight. 3. Leaking or clogged drainage pipes: Some cars have sunroof drainage pipes running through the trunk. If these pipes leak or get clogged, it can also lead to this issue.
It took me several attempts to fix the trunk leak in my old car. At first, I thought it was a seal issue and replaced it with a new one, but it still leaked. Later, upon closer inspection, I discovered that the original seam sealer on the trunk edge had cracked. Actually, the key to fixing leaks isn't about what kind of sealer you use, but first identifying the leak point by testing with water. I used black automotive-specific seam sealer, the kind that costs about 30-40 RMB per tube on Taobao. Remember to completely remove the old, degraded sealer, sand the surface, wipe it dry, and apply the new sealer generously without skimping. Finally, use painter's tape to prevent excess sealer from spreading. After the repair, let it dry for a day before testing with water. It hasn't leaked for over two years since. Also, it's best not to park on a slope during rainy days, as water can easily flow back into the seams.
