What is Variable Steering Ratio in Cars?
1 Answers
Variable steering ratio in cars adjusts the steering gear ratio based on vehicle speed and steering angle. When the car is parked, moving at low speeds, or making large steering angle turns, it provides a smaller steering gear ratio. During high-speed driving or when making small steering angle adjustments, it offers a larger steering gear ratio to enhance steering stability. Different manufacturers use various names for this feature: BMW calls it AFS Active Front Steering, Mercedes-Benz refers to it as Direct Steering, and Audi names it Dynamic Steering, though their functionalities are similar. Currently, variable steering ratio systems are widely implemented across many vehicle models.
