The validity period after the third renewal of a driver's license is permanent. Article 56 of the "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses" states: If a motor vehicle driver has not accumulated 12 penalty points in any scoring cycle during the six-year validity period of the motor vehicle driver's license, the license will be renewed with a ten-year validity period; if the driver has not accumulated 12 penalty points in any scoring cycle during the ten-year validity period, the license will be renewed with a permanent validity period. Renewal deadline: The motor vehicle driver should apply for renewal at the vehicle management office of the license issuing authority within 90 days before the expiration of the current license. The "Motor Vehicle Driver's License Application Form" must be completed when applying. Renewal materials: Bring two copies of ID card, two recent 1-inch color photos without headgear, the original ID card, the original driver's license, and a medical examination certificate from a county-level or above hospital (free medical examinations are also available at the vehicle management office). Renewal process: The motor vehicle driver submits the required materials to the vehicle management office of the license issuing authority for renewal. The vehicle management office will process the renewal within one working day after verification.
I first got my driver's license back in the 1990s, when it was only valid for 6 years, and renewing it meant standing in long queues. A decade later, when I renewed it for the second time, the validity period was extended to 10 years, which felt much better. Now, after renewing it for the third time, it's actually valid indefinitely, so I don't have to worry about it expiring anymore, as long as I'm under 60 years old. Thinking back to the days when I worried about my license expiring during long drives, it's so much easier now. Having driven for so long, safety has always been the top priority—regular vehicle checks are more important than anything. I never expected the policies to become more and more user-friendly; it's truly a blessing for veteran drivers like me.
